A high-level hitting partner, not a lesson

Some weeks you do not need instruction. You need an hour against someone who can hold the level, keep the ball coming at real pace, and play out points that actually mean something. That is what this is.

The problem this solves

Anyone above a certain level in Los Angeles runs into the same wall: finding someone who can actually hit with you. Partner-finding apps are full of players two levels below what you need, club ladders take weeks to arrange, and the friend who used to give you a good hit has a job and two children now.

Meanwhile the work you did in a lesson quietly decays, because a technical change only becomes permanent when it survives live ball at pace. Without that, you are paying for coaching that never gets consolidated.

A hitting partner session fixes that directly. One hour, competitive intensity, at a time you choose, on a court we arrange. No scheduling negotiation and no wondering whether the level will be there.

What an hour looks like

It is not a lesson and it is not casual hitting. It sits deliberately between the two, and it is shaped around what you say you need that week.

  • Extended rallying at pace — crosscourt and down-the-line sequences long enough to build genuine shot tolerance.
  • Pattern work — the specific sequences you are trying to make automatic, run live rather than off a feed.
  • Serve and return blocks — real serves at real intensity, which is the only way to practise a return properly.
  • Match simulation — sets and tiebreaks played out, with the option to start from a losing score so pressure is part of the practice.
  • Directed intensity — tell us to keep it heavy and consistent, or to mix pace and spin the way an awkward opponent would. Both are useful; they train different things.

Who books these

Competitive juniors between lessons and before tournament blocks. Adult league players who need a hit at a level their club cannot reliably supply. Former college players who want to keep the game sharp without committing to instruction they do not need.

A common pattern is one coached lesson and one hitting session per week — the lesson introduces the change and the hitting hour makes it permanent. It is a noticeably faster route than two lessons a week for players who are already technically sound.

Who this is for

This is the right session if…

You cannot find a hit

You are above the level your regular partners can reliably give you, and arranging it every week has become the hard part.

You have a tournament coming

You need volume and intensity, not new information, in the two weeks before you compete.

You want the change to stick

What you fixed in a lesson only becomes yours once it survives live ball at pace.

You want match reps

Sets and tiebreaks played properly, including from behind — the reps that actually transfer.

What the hour looks like

A session, start to finish

01

Tell us the brief

Heavy and consistent, awkward and varied, or straight into match play. Two minutes of setup decides the hour.

02

Rally blocks

Long crosscourt and line sequences at competitive pace, building shot tolerance and rhythm.

03

Serve, return, patterns

Real serves and the sequences you are trying to make automatic, run under live conditions.

04

Points that count

Sets or tiebreaks played out properly, with scores that can be set to put you under pressure.

Your coach

The coach for this

Markos plays these sessions. Being a genuine high-level hitting partner is a playing skill rather than a teaching one, and very few coaches in the area can hold the level for a full hour.

FAQ

Questions about hitting partner

Is a hitting partner session cheaper than a lesson?

It is the same rate — $120 an hour with Markos. You are paying for an hour of a high-level player rather than an hour of instruction, and the court is arranged either way.

What level do I need to be?

Solid intermediate and up. You should be able to sustain a rally at reasonable pace. Below that, a private lesson will do far more for you per hour than a hitting session will.

Can I ask for coaching during the session?

Yes, and it happens naturally — but if what you actually want is instruction, book a lesson. The two are priced the same, so choose by what you need rather than by cost.

Can we just play matches?

Yes. Sets, tiebreaks, or points starting from a set score if you want to practise playing from behind.
